Koop - Koop Island
My forays into France have me left wanting to hear more old-timey jazz, romance music. Enter Koop, a duo comprised of Magnus Zingmark & Oscar Simonsson, two Swedes with a passion for what they call Romantic Swingtronica. When heard their first track, I thought that iTunes was playing my copy of The Man I Love by Joni Mitchell & Herbi Hancock. Drawing upon thousands of samples, a troupe of talented vocalists and, where samples fail, musicians, Koop creates a sound that is reminiscent of a large lounge band that will take you from neon lights of a burlesque show in Paris ( Koop Island Blues ) to a televised Christmas variety show ( Come to Me ), if that show starred drag queens. Did I mention that Zingmark and Simonsson wear dresses, stenciled eyebrows and makeup?
Soothing and delightful, Koop’s latest album, Koop Islands, can be purchased on iTunes. ![]()
