Divine Wind

Monday, June 19th, 2006

She had a lithe frame that drew the air from my lungs as she confidently whipped off her coat.  Her tank top was draped over her shoulders and tapered around her body.  Despite the temperature, her skin appeared soft and smooth.  I could feel my throat constrict.  My legs weakened.  I forgot what I was saying in mid-speech.

Weekend’s Forecast

Delicate StemFamiliy,

With the Germans on holiday, it has been a rather quiet day.

Rather than do nothing, I decided that I would do my taxes 10 days before they are due to the IRS. This is unusual behavior for me. Typically, I put off my taxes like a visit to the proctologist. The good news is that I don’t have colon cancer AND I’m getting a refund! Approximately $2000! Last year I bought a new laptop with my refund. This year, it’s already been spent on assorted things: trips to Spain, London, Italy, high definition video cameras, talking GPS navigators. I still have a trip back to the US to buy for my sister’s wedding recpetion and a trip to Berlin to finance for the World Cup Quarterfinals match.

Speaking of which, I have been fortunate enough to be picked up as a writer for We All Speak Football:

The idea behind the project is a once in a lifetime gathering of football fans around the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. People from all over Europe will have the opportunity to get together, live together for a few days and enjoy the exciting atmosphere around the FIFA World CupTM – and break down barriers by blogging about all this!

An apartment in Berlin Wilmersdorf (near Kurfürstendamm) will be the global online stage for sharing experiences with fans around the world and giving a colorful look from one of the hottest spots during the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.

I will be prolifically documenting my time there. In the meantime, you can catch me singing karaoke and drinking bumwines this weekend in Kusel.

What We Want In A Mate

“I want a guy who isn’t as hungry as he looks. ”

“Fat doods!?”

“Yup.”

Boring

Wednesday, April 12th, 2006

I’m sitting at my desk, wondering what I can do to entertain myself and avoid working, when it occurs to me that I should write. The only thought that is coming into my head is this, “Don’t be boring.” It’s all I can write.

Thirty minutes, while surfing the internet, I follow a link and before me I see this quote from Chuck Palahniuk, “All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. We must never, ever be boring.”

Absence

Absence lessens half-hearted passions, and increases great ones, as the wind puts out the candles and yet stirs up the fire. -Duc de la Rochefoucauld

Distractions

Wednesday, March 15th, 2006

Distractions: I’ve been dreaming of moving to Tallinn, Estonia or Antarctica or Warsaw. Taking up writing seriously. Finishing my book proposal. Leaving the Air Force. Joining Skype. Brushing up on my French. Learning German. Living in very-cheap Thailand. Perhaps on a boat. Strange, because I don’t like large bodies of water. Falling in love with a hippie, or an artist or a photographer or someone with an accent or who is creative.

Book Proposal

Tuesday, February 14th, 2006

“It’s never too late to become who you want to be.”

I want to sleep-in, travel, laugh with strangers on trains … come home to Mobel Martin, Crate & Barrell, and Chiasso. If all goes well, over the next few months, and my book proposal is picked up, I might have a new job in many new countries.

I want to create something that you will share with your friends.
